The NRP Provider Course introduces the concepts and basic skills of neonatal resuscitation. It focuses on the following “core” cases:
- The changes in physiology that occur when a baby is born
- Recognition of neonates that require resuscitative assistance
- Steps of resuscitation
- Use of bag-and-mask ventilation
- Chest compressions
- When and why endotracheal intubation is needed during resuscitation
- When and what medications to give during resuscitation
- Special situations that may complicate resuscitation and cause ongoing problems
- Ethical considerations about starting and stopping resuscitation
- Subsequent management of the baby who has required resuscitation)
